A SCHOOL in Heybridge has risen above the national average in their exam results.

Pupils at Heybridge Primary School have achieved an 85 per cent mark in reading, writing and maths in their Year Six SATs - 20 per cent above the national average.

The Government set a benchmark of 65 per cent for all primary schools and the national average is 64 per cent.

The school has been rated by Ofsted as ‘good’ since June 2016.

The focus for the school now is the drive for ‘outstanding’ school status.

Headteacher Simon Waltham said: “It is an exceptional set of results.

“It represents strong improvements in all areas of learning and also the quality of teaching at the school.

“We hope to continue with the strong foundations we’ve made and push towards an outstanding rating in the future.

“We will continue to develop our winning formula, to ensure that we understand what has a positive impact on our pupils.

“We are always looking to find new ways to make learning enjoyable so that every one of them can shine.”

He added: “My mantra is that children get only one shot at primary education, so we must give them the best shot we can.”
