SECONDARY school singers are set to bring the 1984 hit Do They Know It’s Christmas? to life in a charity single.

More than 400 performers from Years 7, 8 and 9 at the Colne Community School in Brightlingsea are gearing up to record the track next week under the tutelage of head of music Anna Green.

It is all part of the Church Road school’s Big Sing event.

The group, which includes a number of soloists, have been learning how to perform as part of an

ensemble and with musical techniques such as added dynamics, changing tempo, blending voices, singing different vocal part, performing to a backing track and to a live band.

All profits from sales will go to Cancer Research UK. The school hopes to raise £1,000.

Head of music Mrs Green said: “This is a really ambitious project and involves all Year 7 and 8 and choir members from Year 9 - approximately 450 pupils.

“They are accompanied by our Year 11 live band. It has been a real team effort and I am proud of our students’ efforts”

Principal Neil Gallagher added: “There is a real buzz about this project and I am delighted that, as a community, we can support such a worthwhile charity.”
