A SCHOOL in the district was visited by a multi award-winning author.

Former Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen came to Purleigh Community Primary School in Pump Lane to give a storytelling assembly earlier this month.

Mr Rosen read out some of his own work and was available for book signing later in the day.

Head of School Neil Stotter said: “Michael Rosen came to visit us on November 7.

“In the morning, Class R, one and two as well as Year two children from Larkrise Primary, which is another school in the Eveleigh LINK Multi- Academy Trust listened as Michael Rosen shared some of his stories.

“In the afternoon he entertained and inspired Years three through six six by inventing and telling a story about the Stone Age - made up on the day after he had seen a topic display board.

“He answered a lot of children's questions such as how long it takes to write a book, which book he is currently putting together and which people had inspired him.

“After school he met the parents as well and did a book signing for a long queue of extremely happy children.

“As we had expected, Michael Rosen was a thoroughly engaging, entertaining and kind hearted visitor.

“All children, parents and staff had an amazing day.”

Michael Rosen has won awards for his writing, stories and poems and was the sixth Children's Laureate from June 2007 to June 2009.
