A SUPERMARKET is supporting Children in Need with a host of fundraising activities.

Asda in Queen Elizabeth Square, South Woodham Ferrers is taking part in the supermarket chain's campaign, 'The Power of Play' to encourage the importance of developing children's minds through play and to use a little imagination to help them grow.

Across the country Asda stores have raised £19m through its fundraising events over the last 18 years.

The money has been used to support disadvantaged children and young people across the UK in need of support.

Lisa Kelly, Asda South Woodham Ferrers' community champion, said: “This year, colleagues in Essex will be positively Pudsey with enthusiasm throughout the month of November to raise both funds and awareness of the impact the money has, as well as the fundraising activities taking place in-store and in the wider community.

“From community Pudsey parties to cake sales and fun games, colleagues will be busy raising funds for BBC Children in Need to ensure that as many children as possible will see their lives improved by this money.”

Children in Need funds 2,700 projects across the country to help people living in poverty or with a disability or illness and children experiencing distress, neglect or trauma.

Simon Antrobus, chief executive of the charity, said; “We are hugely grateful to everyone at Asda who have once again come together to make a difference to young lives across the UK.

"As a charity we exist to ensure that every child in the UK is kept safe, happy and secure, and supported to reach their full potential.

"The power of play in a child's life is transformative, so we are delighted that Asda are once again going above and beyond to make a difference."

Asda’s George is selling glitter Pudsey ears, for £3.50, as well as clothes for all the family, socks, coin purses, rucksacks and more.

A minimum 20 per cent of the price will go towards Children in Need.

Fundraising activities will be held at the South Woodham Ferrers branch and in the community throughout November.
