A BUSINESS in Maldon is encouraging children to read to raise money for charity.

Sounds Right Phonics who give classes at Maldon and Tiptree FC are raising money for Children in Need.

A social media campaign called Get Caught Reading encourages each person to take a picture of themselves and their child reading, posting it on Facebook and tagging other people to join in the challenge.

Sounds Right will donate £1 for every photo of a child reading that they are tagged in.

Co-manager Charlie Day, said: “We wanted to raise money for this very valuable charity, and also make it really engaging for the children.

“We thought this theme fits in really well with Sounds Right Phonics and the parents and children are already really enjoying the challenge.

“We have seen people reading in their Children in Need t-shirt and headband, outside a motorway service station and even whilst doing a headstand.”

Co-manager Lauren Youles said: “I’m having so much fun getting involved with all the different activities we’ve got going on for Children In Need and so are the children.

“The focus of our classes is fun and if we get to raise money for charity whilst doing it, then even better.”
