The inquest into the death of a mother who was killed in a crash on the A120 has opened.

Susan Herbert, of Sydney Street, Brightlingsea, died on the busy road near Hare Green after her Ford Galaxy crashed into a lorry transporter which was parked in a layby.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.20am on Friday, October 12, but the 36-year-old, who is believed to have been a mother-of-four, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into Mrs Herbert’s death was opened at Chelmsford Coroner’s Court on Monday morning.

Speaking at the hearing, coroner’s officer Andre Kimche said: “Susan Herbert died on October 12 at a layby in Elmstead Market.

“She was travelling along the A120 and collided with a stationary car transporter.

“Paramedics attended and her death was confirmed at the scene.

“The cause of death has been provisionally given as 1A multiple injuries.

“Toxicology samples have been taken.”

Senior Coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray set Thursday, March 21, 2019, as the provisional date for the full inquest.

She added: “I will require a copy of the post mortem and toxicology reports and I want to see the serious crash investigation report.”

Mrs Beasley-Murray also asked for a written statement to be provided by the family in time for the full inquest.
