1. Sam Callahan gig. Oakhouse, Maldon

Maldon-born singer Sam Callahan will return to his old workplace at the Oakhouse in High Street on Saturday, October 27. Sam, 24, first came to fame with his appearance on ITV’s The X Factor five years ago. This homecoming gig will also act as a lead-up to his new album due to be released next year. And Sam is looking forward to heading back to Maldon. He added: “Getting back to the roots is the key to going forward and going back to perform in the bar I once worked feels like a natural way to present it. “I’m very much looking forward to my homecoming gig in Maldon, I haven’t done local tours in a while, and it’s the town I grew up in, so it should be special.” His gig, Homecoming, will start from 8pm. 2. A Bygone Era exhibition. Hayletts Gallery, Maldon

The exhibition, called A Bygone Era, will be open until November 17 at Hayletts Gallery in High Street. Artists in the exhibition include Edward Ardizzone, Anthony Atkinson, Ted Atkinson, Duffy Ayers, Roderic Barrett, Edward Bawden, and Bernard Cheese. There are also works by Peter Coker, Henry Collins, Walter Hoyle, Edward Hughes, John Nash, Eduardo Paolozzi, John O’Connor, Joyce Pallot, Sheila Robinson, Michael Rothenstein, Ron Sims, Humphrey Spender, Catharni Stern, Stephanie Stow and Valerie Thornton. All works featured will be for sale. The gallery is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am-5pm.

3. The Danger Tree exhibition. Moot Hall & Maeldune Centre, Maldon

The Danger Tree will see two free interactive art exhibitions looking at the Great War coming to Maldon. The exhibition is being held as part of the celebrations to commemorate the centenary of the First World War. Danger Tree features original paintings and limited edition prints using state-of-the-art augmented reality software to bring each piece alive through poetry, animation and music. Visitors will be able to use the technology to watch the paintings transform into a 3D experience using hand-held devices and headphones. Each painting will tell the story of soldiers who fought and fell in the Great War from 1914 to 1918. The exhibition was created by award winning artists Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot and it will mark the first time the artwork has come to Essex. The exhibition will then run at the Maeldune Centre from Saturday, October 27 to Tuesday, November 13, showing ten portraits of soldiers from the Great War. A second exhibition will run at the Moot Hall from October 27 to Sunday, November 18 with oil paintings depicting images of the Great War by Scarlett Raven. The exhibition contains animation, music, and wartime poetry narrated by acclaimed actors including Vicky McClure and Sean Bean. Admission to both of the exhibitions is free. 4. Due South. Tollesbury Congregational Church

AN EVENING of entertainment and mystery is set to take place. The Tollesbury Amateur Players will be putting on their cabaret Due South at the Tollesbury Congregational Church in East Street on Friday and Saturday. Visitors will be taken on a mystery tour of all points south of Tollesbury incorporating many famous faces and places, songs and serenades. 5. Dirty Lobster Halloween event. Cooks Yard, The Hythe, Maldon

Pop-up restaurant Dirty Lobster will be putting on a Halloween-themed lobster supper club experience from Friday to Sunday. The horrifying Halloween event is set on board a sailing barge at Cooks Yard in The Hythe. Tickets cost £5 and this covers the costs of production and actors. Food and drink on the night will have to be purchased at an additional charge. Guests will be emailed with options of times to dine within three days of their order being placed. 6. Halloween at the Prom. Promenade Park, Maldon

Maldon Carnival’s first Halloween Event will be at Promenade Park in Park Drive on Saturday from 10am to 3pm. All events will happen at the small park including a maze, a fancy dress competition, a photobooth and a slime workshop. The event is for children aged 11 or less. Tickets for everything but the slime workshop are £3 per child on the day, £2.75 per child online or £2.50 per child for groups of two or more. The workshop is £1.50 at the door or £1.25 online.
