PORK projectiles will be thrown through the air for the triumphant return of an annual sausage throwing festival.

Three local pubs will be opening their doors for this year's Harwich Sausage Festival taking place on Saturday, November 3.

Competitors will attempt to sling salami as far as they can, before the pubs open for crowds to taste the wares of some of the finest butchers in Tendring.

The pre-meat is at the Hanover Inn, in Church Street, at 11am before the 11.30am competition outside.

Between midday and 2.30pm there will be public sausage tasting at the Hanover Inn, New Bell Inn and Alma Inn before the winner is crowned at 3pm.

Last year's winner of the throwing competition was Todd Rothwell chucking for the Alma Inn with a new record of 47 metres - which is about the width of a Premier League football pitch.

The overall winner of the 2017 tasting competition was Primrose Pork of Great Bromley with its pork and cranberry sausage.

A Tendring CAMRA spokesman said: "If you love the atmosphere of the Great British pub and are partial to a gourmet sausage we warmly invite you to join us.

"Even if you're not entirely sure we would welcome the opportunity to convince you that the combined talents of butchers, brewers and publicans makes for a fantastic day out."

There is no charge to watch the throwing or join the public sausage tasting.
