NINETIES pop sensation Steps add Colchester’s Castle Park to their nationwide tour schedule next year.

It is the first open air pop concert to be hosted at the park and will see the group perform on June 16.

The quintet will perform songs from their fifth album, Tears on the Dancefloor, as well as some of their feelgood classics.

Tickets for bronze, silver and golden circle packages are priced at £39.50, £45 and £65 plus booking fee.

All tickets are standing.

Colchester councillor Tim Young, responsible for business and culture, said: "The council has been working closely with the Liz Hobbs Group, who are promoting the tour nationally, and I'm excited Steps is playing at Castle Park next year.

"To have an international superstar group playing at Castle Park is a great endorsement of the venue and the facilities we offer, and a fantastic opportunity for fans in Colchester to enjoy a spectacular concert so close to home."

Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Lisa Scott-Lee, Ian 'H' Watkins and Lee Latchford-Evans first burst on to our screens in 1997 with the funky line dancing number, 5, 6, 7, 8.

It achieved record-breaking success, followed by an unbroken run of fourteen top ten singles, two four-times Platinum albums and one five-times Platinum album.

The group has sold more than 20 million records including Tragedy, Better The Devil You Know and Chain Reaction.

Despite cutting ties in December 2001, the pull of music proved too strong, leading to Steps reforming twice.

The last time was in January for their 20th anniversary.

Now, the group is set to wow fans again but with a maturer sound.

A huge crowd is expected for the gig so organisers recommend getting your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets will go on sale from Friday, November 17, at 9am.
