AN MP has been disheartened after hearing the former Mayor of London said he would not run for Prime Minister.
James Cleverly, MP for Braintree, recently announced he would back Boris Johnson in the running.
Today Boris Johnson unexpectedly ruled himself out of the Conservative leadership race hours after his key ally Michael Gove announced he would run.
Mr Cleverly said it was disappointing news.
He said: “Everything I said about Boris I stand by, but now I must spend a bit of time giving it thought and will make a decision next week.
“He was very much good to go but when a change of that magnitude happens you have to review your decision and that’s what Boris felt he had to do.
“I’m hugely disappointed but politics is a tough game- he is a resilient, energetic guy and I am certain any Prime Minister with their wits about them would want him as part of their team.”
