GREGGS has announced it is to 'roll out' its vegan sausage roll across the country.

"Following high customer demand" Greggs says it will soon be available in all of its 1,950 shops.

Originally launched in 950 shops, while gauging customer demand, the infamous vegan snack will now be stocked in all shops as of Friday, March 8.

"250 additional shops per week will start selling the Vegan Sausage Roll until it is eventually available everywhere," said a spokesman for the North-East company.

Braintree and Witham Times:

"Eager customers can also check when it will be available at their local shop via a new ‘Vegan Sausage Roll Locator’ www.greggs.co.uk/vsr-locator."

Greggs launched the vegan roll on January 3 and it immediately created debate with those for and against weighing in.

"The launch followed strong consumer demand, including a petition by PETA last year, which was signed by more than 20,000 people. It has been one of the most successful launches in Greggs’ history," the spokesman said.

"The Vegan Sausage Roll is designed to mirror some of the sausage roll’s classic features, including 96 layers of light and crisp puff pastry, but instead is made with a bespoke Quorn filling. It costs from £1."
