Braintree and Witham Times:

In a video shared widely on social media a police officer can be seen wrestling Mahira to the ground despite calls for him to stop.

Nasir Hussain and Mahira Hussain both of Oldham, have been bailed to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 30 October 2018.

Mr Hussain accused the police of using excessive force.

He is reported as saying, ‘To be honest I’m absolutely shocked something like this could ever happen. From a young age I’ve always thought if you have a problem, call a police officer.

"I don’t think I will ever ask a police officer for help again in my life. ‘The water was just for home, my missus drinks two litres of Volvic a day.

"She’s a secondary school teacher and the bottled water is kind of her trademark, she’s very popular at the school.’

‘We’d already put half the bottles through the checkout when the manager said you can’t take that many."

‘I was embarrassed because there were a lot of people in the queue and I did get annoyed but I was just trying to explain that other Tescos had sold us the same amount in the past and it wasn’t a problem.

"They had loads of water left on the shelves but the manager said call security."

Police said, "Around 7pm on Tuesday 25 September, while responding to another incident at Tesco on Silk Street, Rochdale, an officer was alerted to a disturbance in the store.

"The officer spoke to both parties involved before asking a man to leave.

"The officer was assaulted and suffered injuries to his face."
