A POST-TRAUMATIC stress disorder sufferer is set to shave her head in front of hundreds of people in a bid to raise £1,000 for a mental health charity.

Lesley Cooper will say goodbye to her hair this weekend (May 11-12) during war show Temple at War which will take place at Cressing Temple.

The 32-year-old is hoping to raise money for a charity called Stress which she says has worked to help her and her family.

Lesley said: "This charity holds special meaning to me because, coming from a very military family, I have had first hand experience of how living with the mental scars can cause havoc with daily life.

"This amazing charity has helped my family in more ways them you will ever imagine and I hold them in the highest regard.

"I myself live PTSD which was triggered after I witnessed a terrible car accident on my way to work one day.

"I assisted the injured drivers - one driver survived but tragically the other suffered horrific injuries and died.

"Living with the memory of this is bad enough, but can you imagine some of the memories our service men and women live with on a daily basis?"

So far she has raised £30 but she is hoping the public shave this weekend will help her hit four-figures for the charity which helps struggling veterans.

Lesley said that a lack of support elsewhere means it is vital that charities such as Stress are supported.

She said: "This small act is nothing in comparison to what many servicemen and women up and down the country endure for years following military service.

"We hear stories in the newspapers and over social media on a weekly basis about current personnel and veterans who go missing following mental health breakdowns.

"The NHS does what it can to offer treatment to those with mental health struggles but sometimes it's just not enough because it's over stretched."

Temple at War will take place this weekend at Cressing Temple and tickets are still available.
