A woman driver who may have witnessed an incident in Witham is being urged to contact police.

Officers were called to the areas of Trent Road and Wharf Close just before 6pm on Thursday, August 2, following reports that a man had a samurai sword.

Richard Hearn, aged 46, of no fixed address, was arrested in Highfields Road, Witham, and charged with possession of an offensive weapon and affray.

He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on August 6 and will next appear at Colchester Magistrates Court on September 17.

It is believed that the woman who may have witnessed the incident was driving a silver Ford Focus style vehicle.

She is asked to contact Dc Steven Walker on 101.
