The fight to improve Witham’s health services is stepping up as doctors and politicians are set to meet about the issue.

Witham Town Council is arranging a meeting with MP Priti Patel and GPs in the town to try and improve access for patients.

Council leader Michael Lager will also meet clinical commissioning group board members in Colchester on June 26 to tell them what services Witham needs.

He said: “Specifically it is around the number of clinics held in the town, particularly ones where there are initial consultations or giving results.

“We have felt for a long time there is a lot more scope for health services to be brought much closer to patients rather than them going to the NHS.

“Witham is rather devoid of these services whereas Braintree has got the community hospital.”

He hopes by attending the meeting it will make the board aware of the town’s issues.
