Homeowners have endured excess surface water from a blocked drain being splashed as high as their roofs.
Amanda Garnham, of Blackwater Cottages in Bradwell, has even had water sprayed up against her house and through a vent into her kitchen.
Ms Garnham and her neighbours have complained about the drain on the A120 for the last year.
Water does not drain away during heavy rainfall and reaches as far as their front doors. A Highways Agency spokesman said work has recently been carried out to clear the gulleys and contractors will be sending high powered jets of water through the pipes to clear any blockages.
