Olly Murs donated £5,000 to charity after winning just 50p on Deal or No Deal.

The popstar donated the cash to Brainwave, which he is patron of, after appearing on the celebrity version of the show.

The Witham X Factor star appeared on the show on Sunday for the second time, after competing in his pre-fame days in 2007 and finishing with £10.

The 27-year-old was this time hoping to raise funds for Brainwave which is based in Witham.

After a number of offers totalling thousands of pounds the singer was left with just £10 and 50p boxes in the final round when the banker offered him just £2.99.

When told he had won 50p Olly said: “I feel really bad about it and I’m hoping people watching at home can get involved more and I am looking forward to doing lots more in the future.”

Brainwave chief executive Phil Edge said: “We would like to thank Olly most sincerely for taking part in this programme and raising awareness of Brainwave.

“There was a humorous suggestion during the programme that Brainwave would have to "sack" Olly as patron. “Nothing could be further from the truth and we are very lucky to have him as our patron.”
