Braintree karate kid Katy Ellis has been crowned world champion after competing in the Go Kan Ryu (GKR) Karate World Cup against 50 competitors from New Zealand, Australia and the USA.
The black belt Tabor Science College pupil was speechless when she was awarded gold for Kata - fighting Her mum Helen Ellis also took home a bronze medal as well as a team silver in Kumite, in which the individual demonstrates a combination of moves.
