Supermarket chain Morrisons plans to extend its Braintree Road store by 40%, creating 45 jobs in addition to its existing 224 employees.
The extension will include a bigger public cafe seating 142 customers, more retail floor space and new public toilets.
However, the work would mean the loss of 47 parking spaces and five trees.
