A double murder suspect tried to phone his father just before the fatal shootings of his ex-partner and two-year-old daughter.
Witham pensioner Peter Oakes said his son David had been tormented by not seeing his daughter Shania.
The toddler and her 38-year-old mother were found dead in their home in Bartram Avenue, Braintree, last Monday following a two hour siege by armed police.
