A father trekked Mount Kilimanjaro for the charity which helped his son battle meningitis.

Duncan McLean, 53, of Coggeshall, climbed almost 20,000ft to the summit of Africa’s largest mountain in Tanzania.

The dentist who also works in the village completed the six day trek along with 27 other volunteers to raise money for the Meningitis Trust.

Mr McLean said: “My 19-year-old son Matthew had meningitis in 2009.

“He was very lucky to survive and so I wanted to help others."
