We are in for a settled, dry summer - but not necessarily a “barbecue” one, according to a leading Essex meterologist.

Tom Defty, who predicted snow before anyone else last autumn, said if the high pressure remains there could be temperatures of about 20C.

While not dismissing the possibility of more frosts this spring, the 29-year-old could not predict unbridled heat, as weather is caused by very changeable factors.

Only if the high pressure moves to Europe we will see 30C or 40C temperatures, he said.

But daffodils and other spring flowers coming out early this year was a good sign.
