Mothers in Coggeshall are struggling to book their government funded sessions as the village nursery is oversubscribed.
The non profit Honywood pre-school, based in the village high school, is undertaking a £250,000 fundraising project to try and expand.
The small room they currently use caters for 16 children per session, but the nursery has over 80 youngsters on its books, and another ten on its waiting list.
The nursery had hoped to recieve a grant from the government allowing them to expand the nursery but funding has been cut.
Jo Cornell, who runs the pre-school with Angela Herod, said they are in a desperate situation.
