An amateur horse rider beat a field of 20 riders to take a national title.

Dressage rider Christine Cockerton scooped a prestigious national title at the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships.

Mrs Cockerton, 46, of Plums Lane, Bardfield Saling, said she first started riding when she was three-years-old but it has always been a hobby for her.

“My father came home with a donkey for me one day when I was three,” she said. “It started from there and I progressed from ponies to horses.”

The winter championship was held in Gloucestershire on April 7-11.
