A silversmith who creates prestigious trophies and pieces for the Royal Family scooped a gold medal.

Lee Bull, who lives in north Witham, won gold in the model making category at the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council’s awards ceremony.

The industry award, which recognises excellence in craftsmanship and design, was for his intricate scale model of an English country house and its landscaped grounds. The model is made entirely of sterling silver.

Mr Bull, 41, created The America's Cup, the sailing trophy, and every year he crafts the Cheltenham Gold Cup, one of the top trophies in horseracing.

He said the gold medal winning model was created after a friend of a friend asked him to make a model of a house he had built and then sold.

The model is about a 1ft tall at its highest point and it measures about 30ins by 25ins.

“It weighs a tonne and took four of us to carry it,” Mr Bull said.
