A teenager was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.
The 19-year-old from Witham allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old student, also from the town, in Chelmer Road, Witham, last night.
Police were called just before 7pm and the 18-year-old had suffered a stab wound to his chest.
He was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, and the wound was not thought to be life threatening.
Earlier detectives were questioning the 19-year-old at Braintree Police Station.
