SILK fit for a Queen features in a flagship project tracing the history of the world.
The Queensway Coronation Silk, woven by Warner and Sons Ltd in Braintree, is one of ten objects chosen from museums and collections across Essex to tell the county's history and its place in the world.
It will feature in A History of the World, a unique partnership between the BBC, the British Museum and 350 museums and institutions across the country.
The coronation silk, which is kept at the Warner Textile Archive in Braintree, hung from the balconies of Westminster Abbey when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953.
Tim Wilkinson, Braintree Council's deputy portfolio holder for enterprise and culture, said: “It’s wonderful news that one of the important royal fabrics from the Warner Textile Archive has been recognised nationally to promote the skill of local weavers from the Braintree furnishing factory of Warners and Sons in the 1950s."
