Members enjoyed an interesting talk by Ray Hurst, from the Royal British Legion.
Mr Hurst told how the legion was formed in 1921 and its role in giving support for ex-servicemen. He also spoke of fundraising by Poppy Day collections, which are vital for its continuation.
The competition for a poppy picture was won by Maria Coughlan, with Yvonne Butcher second and Chris Wright third.
The next event is the branch’s 40th birthday party tomorrow.
The next meeting will be the annual meeting on October 23, and the competition is for a homemade 40th birthday card.
