Teams from Aldham, Kelvedon, Paycocks from Coggeshall, Witham and Hadfelda from Hatfield Peverel met in the Institute on Monday evening for the first round of the WI county quiz.
Sheila Gunson acted as quizmaster.
Kelvedon’s team of Angela Maskery, Kelly-Marie Thompson, Linda Wood, Ruth Kent, Stephanie Coulson, Christine Saffell, Fiona Barkham and Christine Huggett took second place with 70 points, beaten by Aldham with 80 points.
They will go forward to the next round, at Boreham village hall on October 17.
The same evening Kelvedon Rotary Club will be holding its annual quiz in the Institute hall and Kelvedon WI will field a team.
