Whatever the breed or species, every pet is welcome to enter - and every pet has a shot at the crown.

There are three categories to enter: Essex's Cutest Dog, Cutest Cat and Cutest Other Pet.

Every week between now and the big reveal, we'll be featuring the cutest entries sent in so far in the paper - so keep an eye out for your pet.

Once entries close, animal experts at Mayne Vetinary Clinic in Colchester will select the finalists and winners, who'll be revealed in a special Pet of the Year supplement, out with the Gazette on October 26.

And here's the thing - just because your pet hasn't made the paper in the run-up doesn't mean they're out of the running. The judges are picking finalists from every entry, not just the ones we've had space to print, so make sure you don't miss it.

Here's what we need: a photo of your pet, their name, age, breed, and a couple of things they love or hate. 

For example - my jackawawa (a Chihuahua-Jack Russell mix) is called Tommy. He's seven, rescued from an animal centre in Mistley, loves tummy rubs and cuddles, and hates the ice cream van - he howls at it until it leaves.
