A pilot has been seriously injured in a light aircraft crash at Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome.

Essex Police were first called shortly before 2.25pm on Sunday, August 16.

The sole occupant of the aircraft was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

No other injuries have been reported.

The incident occurred during an event at the site.

Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work safely.

Stow Maries took to social media to inform people of the incident.

A Facebook post said: "Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome can confirm that there has been an air incident during our air show.

"More information will follow shortly. In the meantime, the museum is closed to the public."
