A NEW outdoor gym has officially opened at Coggeshall Recreation Ground.
The project was funded with £72,000 secured through Section 106 developer contributions.
The new facility is designed for residents aged 14 and above and aims to encourage outdoor fitness for people of all abilities.
It includes a variety of equipment suitable for all fitness levels, such as a bike, calisthenics station, cross trainer, chest press, balance board, and jumping pods with a timer.
Gabrielle Spray, councillor responsible for planning at Braintree Council, said: "Credit must go to Coggeshall Parish Council who have led on this fantastic project and worked with their supplier to deliver the new outdoor gym.
"The planning process plays a key role in helping to enhance community facilities on a wider level and this is a prime example of that.
"While new homes are needed across the Braintree district, it’s important that the benefits are felt by communities at large, not just those who will be living in new developments."
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, June 11, and was attended by representatives from both Coggeshall Parish Council and Braintree Council.

The idea for the gym came from a resident survey carried out by Coggeshall Parish Council last summer.
The survey highlighted a need for more outdoor fitness facilities for older teenagers and adults.
Parish councillor Andy Badger said: "The new outdoor gym at The Rec was built in direct response to the recent Coggeshall Parish Council Recreation Ground Survey, making good use of a redundant hardstanding near the Big Park playground."
