National Trust to host outdoor theatre productions in Essex

THE National Trust is hosting an array of open-air events across Essex this summer.

Families can look forward to a retelling of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz at Grange Barn, at 3pm on July 23.

This fast-paced 60-minute production by DOT Productions promises fun, silliness and lively songs, and is suitable for all ages.

The same venue will also host a fresh adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere’s Fan on August 20, at 7.30pm.

A cast of five actors will deliver Wilde's social satire with a comedic twist.

At Hatfield Forest in Essex, theatre goers can immerse themselves in the tragedy of Othello, performed by the Lord Chamberlains Men, at 7pm on June 23.

The play follows Othello, the Moor of Venice, as he promotes young Cassio to be his lieutenant over the soldier Iago, who is overcome with hatred and jealousy.

For a family-friendly outing, Pinocchio by Illyria will be performed at 6pm on July 10.

This timeless tale of a puppet’s journey towards becoming a real boy is based on Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel, and is told through a thrilling musical outdoor show.

Quantum Theatre will bring the mischievous adventures of The Tale of Peter Rabbit to life at 1pm on August 6.

Michael Whitmore's adaptation follows Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny as they evade Mr McGregor after sneaking into his garden.

This adaptation promises a magical afternoon of fun for all the family.

Rounding off the summer season at Hatfield Forest, Illyria presents The Three Musketeers at 3pm on September 5, at 6pm.

The story follows young D'Artagnan, who is desperate to join Athos, Porthos and Aramis as an elite Musketeer of the King's Guard.

This production of Alexandre Dumas' classic novel promises excitement, comedy, storytelling and swordplay.

A selection of blockbuster movies will also be screened under the stars, offering a unique cinematic experience.

Music lovers can enjoy tribute performances to ABBA, Queen, and Paul Simon, as well as Ibiza club classics.

The National Trust encourages visitors to enhance their open-air experience with a picnic, or to explore the range of food and drink options available at each venue.
