BRAINTREE Male Voice Choir has appointed its former accompanist to become its new musical director.
Sue Edwards will replace Thomas Duchan, who led the choir for five years.
She accompanied the choir when it was under the direction of David Wood and was deputy accompanist under Elizabeth Miller.
She will return to pick up the baton at the beginning of September after the choir’s summer break.
Sue is currently the musical director of Great Waltham Village Choir and the Players Theatre Company in Southend.
She is also the accompanist and deputy musical director of Chelmsford Male Voice Choir and plays in the Selion Swing Band.
Sue said: “It’s an honour to be asked to become Braintree Male Voice Choir’s new musical director.
“I aim to continue the good work that Thomas completed, introducing music from a range of genres which will hopefully entice more men to join the choir and expand its ranks.”
Choir chairman Ian Whiteside said: “The choir is delighted that Sue has accepted the role of musical director.
“We know Sue has a wealth of experience which we are sure will build on the progressive approach of Tom Duchan.”
