PLANS for a new storage warehouse and offices in a village have been thrown out.

D&B Scaffolding was looking to build a storage space and office building in Gosfield.

The application also propose external ladder racking, a washing area, and parking for ten lorries and 44 vehicles.

The site is to the west of Hedingham Road, with part of it formerly used as the oil depot for the nearby airfield and for the storage of containers and materials.

Concerns were raised over the loss of trees at the site as well as plans causing an “unacceptable impact” on the neighbouring property at Orange Hall.

A statement says: “The development would accrue some economic and social benefits with the additional jobs that would be created, however, there would be negative environmental impacts with harm to the character and appearance of the locality, the loss of trees and harm to neighbouring amenity.

“Although the proposal complies with other considerations in regard to highway safety matters, flood risk, ecology, and contamination, this would not outweigh the in-principal objection to development in this locality and the harms as set out.”

Speaking at the meeting, councillor James Abbott said: “I generally would support appropriate uses that provide employment in rural areas, but I think this one does tip over the line in terms of scale.

“I think it hasn’t attempted to do some of the things we like to see, like retention of trees.”

The plans were refused.
