Braintree: Bradford Street property damaged by Tier scooter

Sue Carey, of Bradford Street, discovered a Tier electric scooter was leaning alongside one of her home’s 100-year-old windowpanes around 9.25am on January 6.

Sue and her husband realisedthe discarded scooter must have been stood up and either had been pushed or fallen on to the window, cracking a section of the 1920s glass.

“We could see the scooter was right outside" said Sue.

“The handle was through the leaded panes of our window.

“The windows are from the 1920s, one of the diamond panes has holes in and has cracked.

“When you think the how, the whole windowpane will have to come out, I think it’s going to cost quite a bit of money to fix.”

Sue contacted Braintree Council who directed her to Tier.

She was then passed to Tier’s insurance partner, Zego, and filled out an insurance form explaining the situation.

On February 27, Sue finally received updated correspondence which said the allegations had been received but due to their being no active ride session at the time, Tier is not liable for the damage caused.

Sue said: “I cannot understand why I am being pushed from pillar to post when I’ve got obvious damage to my home.

“It makes me feel angry. One morning our window was broken, and no one wants to accept responsibility.

“As a grade II listed building we must get permission to do anything to our home.

“We are left hanging with a hole in the window. I’m furious that they have got the run of Braintree. You see them all around, there doesn’t seem to be many designated parking spaces.

“Tier is not taking responsibility, ideally, I would like Tier and their insurers to admit it’s their liability.

“I just want my window repaired.”

A spokesman for Tier said: "Unfortunately our vehicles are sometimes moved or knocked over after they have been safely parked in accordance with local regulations.

"This action is in many cases malicious.

"We are sorry for the distress this act has caused. The case remains with our insurance provider".
