WALKERS have better access to woodland with the installation of a new boardwalk.
Witham Town Council has completed the installation of a boardwalk in James Cooke Wood off Maldon Road.
It has been installed in the boggy part of the site, giving the public improved access as they can now easily cut across the watery area with ease.
The boardwalk has been installed as part of ongoing efforts to improve the woodland's health and biodiversity.
The boardwalk project has been funded by housing developer money through Braintree Council, which had been specifically earmarked for improvements to public open spaces.
Town councillor Phil Barlow said: “We are delighted with the completion of our latest project to improve our public open spaces, and which will enhance the visitor experience in the wood.
“We are pleased to be able utilise available Section 106 funds for open space projects like these and enhancing our natural spaces for the benefit of our town.”
Witham Council purchased the land back in 1993 and planted 6,000 trees which formed the community woodland.
