A TEENAGER has been charged following an investigation into a burglary in Witham.

Essex Police received reports of a burglary at a property in Chelmer Road, Witham on June 25.

An unknown number of suspects had forced entry to the rear of the property before searching the property and taking items including the keys to a car.

After an investigation that included an extensive search of CCTV footage and information from the public, officers have now arrested and charged a 17-year-old boy with burglary and taking a motor vehicle.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on January 24, 2024.

Det Sgt Dan Smith said: “We understand the impact burglary can have on victims and investigate every report as thoroughly as we can.

“I am proud of the work all of the officers in this case have put into securing this charge, and I hope that this sends a message to our communities that we take every report of a burglary seriously.”
