A POPULAR Christmas event is set to return to Witham in December which will culminate in a spectacular light switch-on.

Witham Town Council has announced that this year’s Witham Christmas Fayre is set to take place on December 2 in Newland Street and the Grove Shopping Centre.

Prior to the fayre, there is an annual Churches Together Christmas carol service at the shopping centre at 2pm.

Between 3pm and 7pm, there will be a host of festive gifts to choose from.

There will be a range of food stalls featuring festive food and drink, vendors selling bespoke and handcrafted items, and there will be a specialist area for crafts.

Visitors will also be able to spot a reindeer at the shopping centre and there will be plenty of entertainment in Newland Street throughout the event.

The finale will take place at about 6pm when Witham’s Christmas light switch-on ceremony will commence.

Crowds may even spot Father Christmas himself along with trusty elf at the shopping centre.

A town council spokesman said: “The Witham Christmas Fayre is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy an evening filled with Christmas festivities.

“With something for everyone, it promises to be a memorable event for all ages.

“So, mark your calendars for Saturday, December 2, and come along to Newland Street between 3pm-7pm to experience the magic of the Witham Christmas Fayre.”

Last year's event was a great success and featured rides, and many people dressed up the occasion.

There was a large stage in Newland Street which boasted ballet and panto performances.
