AN adult education provider is giving people the chance to boost their English and maths skills with fast-track GCSE courses.

ACL Essex is part of Essex County Council and offers GCSEs in English, maths and science.

These usually take a year to complete, however learners now have the chance to gain these qualifications in just six months.

The new courses will start in January 2024 allowing people to take GCSE exams in June 2024.

Those enrolling will need to attend a pre-course meeting before January to check that the course is suitable for them.

Fast-track courses can help those who wish to enter employment, or progress to Access to Higher Education courses with routes to University, but may need to boost their English, maths or science skills.

The courses can also support those who are currently in employment and want to progress in their career.

For people who do not currently hold a GCSE qualification at a grade 4/C (or above), GCSEs in English and maths are free of charge with ACL Essex.

There is also plenty of support with costs for learning resources.

Councillor Tony Ball, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for education excellence, lifelong learning and employability, said: “Fast-track GCSEs are a great opportunity for people who want to gain qualifications in a short period of time.

“GCSEs in English, Maths and Science subject areas are vital for people who wish to progress in their careers, so by offering a fast way to gain them, ACL Essex is supporting residents with their career goals.

“ACL Essex has also invested in hybrid classrooms, allowing learners to join a course in a physical classroom or online. This provides flexibility for people and lets them fit their learning around their lifestyle.

“Why not drop in and have a chat with the ACL Essex teams from November, to see whether a GCSE fast-track course is right for you?”

Learners who complete GCSEs with ACL Essex can access a wide range of apprenticeship opportunities or go on to undertake further qualifications.
