A "SENSITIVE and special" dog is in search of her new home.

The Danaher Animal Shelter in Wethersfield is looking to find a new home for seven-year-old lurcher Mya.

A spokesman said: "Mya is a sensitive and special sighthound.

"She is friendly and affectionate once she knows you, but is timid around new people and needs time to form a bond with someone.

"Once she knows you she doesn’t mind being bathed or brushed. She doesn’t know sit or any other commands and she isn’t sure how to play with toys yet so she would love to learn.

"She’s a pleasure to walk and is confident outdoors and loves to explore.

"She travels well and walks well on a loose lead, and is good with passing traffic, although lorries can worry her.

"We are looking for a home with quiet surroundings and walking routes."

The spokesman continued: "We suspect she hasn’t lived in a home before, so she would need time and patience to adjust to the fixtures and sounds of a home, and we would expect she would need some assistance with toilet training.

"She can be anxious when left alone, so would need someone around quite a lot of the time, and training on being left alone.

"We are looking for owners who have experience with sighthounds and lurchers, especially rescues that have been timid or nervous and needed a little extra time and support."

Mya is already neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed.
