AN MP has voiced her concerns over the proposed closure if rail ticket offices at four stations in her constituency.

Witham MP Dame Priti Patel raised the issue during a debate in Westminster Hall this week.

Greater Anglia has proposed closing almost all of its ticket offices, including Hatfield Peverel, Witham, Kelvedon and Marks Tey stations in her constituency.

A public consultation closed at the beginning of the month.

Transport Focus and London TravelWatch are now reviewing the comments and feedback received during the consultation period, and will provide recommendations to Greater Anglia about the proposals over the coming weeks.

Dame Priti said she had been in contact with the Secretary of State for Transport and the managing director of Greater Anglia to express local opposition to the plans.

She said: “My constituents are frustrated and angry by the plans to close ticket offices.

“This part of Essex has a growing population and people and businesses rely on rail services to travel to London, Chelmsford, Colchester and other destinations, and manned ticket offices provide them with vital services.

“Greater Anglia and Government need to listen carefully to the concerns and objections raised and respond to them.”
