EMERGENCY services rushed to the scene of a former RAF airbase which is now home to asylum seekers.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to Wethersfield Airfield just after 1pm today.

A spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed: “On arrival crews found that the pressure in a fire suppression system had built up and created a small hole in the roof of a disused building on the edge of the site.

“Crews worked with the site to make the scene safe. No one was injured or had to be evacuated.”

Witnesses also spotted Essex Police and the ambulance service at the scene.
