WITHAM has seen success after a “significant increase” in the A Level grades awarded to sixth formers in the town.

Witham Sixth Form saw more students achieve A* and A grades in this summer’s A Level exams.

School principal Simon Gibbs said: “We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students who have worked tirelessly to achieve their full potential.

“This year, the sixth form has seen a significant increase in the average grade students achieved at A Level, an improvement on both 2019 and 2022, excluding Covid-19 years.

“More students achieved A* and A grades or equivalent and we are hopeful that 100 per cent of them will be able to reach their first-choice destination after sixth form.

“We wish all of our students the best of luck in their next endeavours, whether that be university, apprenticeship or the world of work, and we will be keeping in touch as part of our alumni programme.”

Amongst the successes were some top student results.

Two students are heading to Essex University.

Marissa Campbell achieved a B, Distinction* and Distinction, and Jude Mulhern achieved two Distinction* grades and a B.

Elsewhere, Daniel Alder achieved A, B, B and is heading to Anglia Ruskin University, Joseph Harvey achieved a Distinction and a B and is continuing his studies for another year, and Samuel Banks achieved a Distinction* and two Distinctions and is heading to work in the financial sector.

Teachers were also praised for helping Rosie Boyce to succeed in her first set of exams.

Rosie is among a cohort of students who did not get to sit traditional GCSE exams due to the pandemic.

Having sat her first set of exams this summer, she picked up two Distinction grades and a Distinction* in her triple science BTEC.

She is going to Essex University to study sports therapy, with hopes of becoming a sports therapist or football coach.

She said: “I was so relieved to get my results today. Seeing those results this morning was honestly amazing.

“It was really quite difficult during our GCSEs. I found it quite stressful as nobody knew what was going on. Having not sat proper exams then to coming into Year 12 and having to sit proper exams hit quite hard.

“However, the sixth form has been amazing. The teachers were very, very supportive. They would do anything they could, such as coming in in the school holidays and giving us extra time so we had that support there if we needed it.

“My teachers 100 per cent helped me to get these grades. I could not have done it without my teachers. Their support was so personal, no matter what you needed, they would do it.

“I cannot wait to start my course. I am a little nervous as I am so used to the sixth form and absolutely loved going there every day. But, it is going to be exciting.”
