BRAINTREE residents were delighted to see the return of a popular town carnival after an extended absence.

The Braintree and Bocking Carnival made its triumphant return at the weekend.

The annual event was axed in 2022 due to financial uncertainty and was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.

“The weather couldn’t have been any better. It was very hot, and the procession did well to walk round in that weather.

“We had the big funfair and different things to enjoy in the arena, such as a Zumba class, as well as some martial arts, gymnastics and circus displays.

“We made sure to have some fun for everyone, so we had a free bouncy castle and access to the field to watch some of the entertainment.

“We know the cost of living is tough, but we don’t want people missing out.

“We also had the quiet hour at the start for those with disabilities or autism which was really well received.”

Mr Green said there was about a thousand or more people who turned up to the event.

He said: “The feedback has been really nice. I think people missed the carnival and were really pleased to have it back this year.

“It was good to see so many people come along.

“As I said before, there was a time we weren’t sure it was going to come back, but I am definitely glad we did.

“There were even times last week I wondered if it was a good idea as it normally takes 11 months to plan but we did it in six.

“Thanks to everyone for supporting us and to the Phoneix Café for supplying food.

“We want to bring it back next year and hopefully we will bring it back even stronger.”
