TWO days of epic battles are coming back to mid Essex as another jousting event is being held at Hedingham Castle.

The Knights of Royal England Joust is coming to the castle over the bank holiday weekend, continuing on from previous successful events this year.

So far, visitors have been transported back in time as Hedingham Castle has welcomed the Knights of Middle England for its spring jousting event as well as its Excalibur event set in the times of King Arthur.

Both events welcomed thousands through the gates, with the expectation being the upcoming joust event will repeat the success.

The Knights of Royal England are at Hedingham Castle for the jousting event over the bank holiday weekend.

There will also be activities and food on offer too, providing a fun day out for the whole family.

A spokesman said: “Cheer on your favourite knight as they charge down the arena, lance in hand, ready to take down their opponent.

“Explore the ancient castle and stunning gardens, as well as experience many medieval pursuits including archery, axe throwing, mechanical horse riding and much more.

“You can refuel at one of the many food stalls available, serving a wide variety of hot and cold cuisine, and take home a memento of the day from a selection of artisan vendors.

“It's an unforgettable day of family fun and excitement.”

The event is on Sunday, May 28, and Monday, May 29.

Gates open at 10am each day, with the first joust starting at approximately midday and the second starting at about 3pm.
