A HISTORIC war re-enactment event is returning to a venue near Braintree.

Temple at War is coming back to Cressing Temple Barns this month.

The show first opened its doors in 2015 and has rapidly gained an outstanding reputation for high quality and interactive historical re-enactment, with a number of military vehicles on display.

This year Temple at War will showcase one of the best and largest immersive living history gatherings in the UK.

The weekend will feature more than 900 re-enactors gathering over the weekend.

Temple at War 2023 will also offer a spectacular gathering of military vehicles as well as atmospheric 1940s' stage entertainment in the shape of the wonderfully talented three-girl vintage girl group Fox, Wiggle and Sass.

Guests can experience the explosive pyrotechnic daily battle displays, browse the wide range of Vintage and Militaria trade stands and experience the fantastic top-quality street food market.

Temple at War will also feature RAF Battle of Britain flypasts on both days.

On Saturday, the sky will shake to the thunderous drone of an Avro Lancaster, one of only two remaining airworthy examples of the famous bomber in the world.

On Sunday, the iconic Supermarine Spitfire will dazzle the crowds with low level passes at speed.

An event spokesman said: “‘The re-enactors love nothing more than passing on their knowledge and experience.

“Don’t be afraid to get involved, it really is the best atmosphere for young and old alike to enjoy.

“We are an Essex, family-run event which is proud to put on a high-quality show at a great value ticket price.

“Our public feedback is second to none and rated five-star.

“It takes a year to plan the event and all the hard work is worth every second when we get to welcome everyone over the weekend.”

The event takes place on Saturday, May 13, from 9am to 5pm, and Sunday, May 14, from 10am to 4pm.
