WITHAM households have been updated after hundreds of homes lost gas due to a fault.

Residents in Witham have been left without gas after a fault led to it being switched off last Thursday, April 13.

Cadent Gas switched off the mains and sent engineers who have been on site since Thursday working to restore the supply.

Those living in the estate off King Edward Road and Allectus Way have been affected by the loss of gas for six days.

But Cadent has now confirmed the gas supply has been restored.

Those affected will receive pay compensation.

Householders are entitled to £70 for every 24 hours they were off the gas while businesses will receive £115 per 24 hours off the gas.

This will be paid directly to them via their gas suppliers.

A spokesman from Cadent Gas said: "Great news, we managed to restore gas to all properties last night!

"There are just a few properties where we haven't been able to gain access to do the essential safety checks but we will revisit those properties today.

"You will still see us around today.  We will be tidying up the areas where we have been working throughout the weekend."
