A DOG was rescued by the emergency services after it was left inside a vehicle.

Police were called to the vehicle in Braintree after a dog was left inside.

When officers attended, despite knocking on all the nearby houses the vehicle owner could not be located.

Working with Braintree Council, the dog was rescued and taken to be checked over by a vet.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Please don't leave dogs in vehicles because even in April they can get very hot inside.

"Thank you everyone who brought out water and food."

A Braintree Council spokesman added: "We work with Essex Police - Braintree District on a partnership basis and we assist each other to keep the district safe for both humans and animals.

"Please do not leave dogs in vehicles, it can easily become too hot for them and make them unwell."
