A cyclist who was involved in a crash with a van in Witham in December has died.

Essex Police was called to an incident in Maldon Road shortly after 11am on December 15 following reports of a collision between a van and a bicycle.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 60s, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

This week the force confirmed he had sadly died.

Essex Police said his family is being supported.

The van driver, a 31-year-old man, has been interviewed and enquires are continuing.

Sergeant Alex Black, of the force’s serious collision incident unit, is leading the investigation.

He said: “We have taken a number of accounts from witnesses and we’re continuing to piece together the circumstances leading up to this incident and I would continue to appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV of it to come forward.”
